[UPDATE:  BANGKOK (AFP) – Malaysia’s renowned former communist fighter Chin Peng, who led a guerrilla campaign against British colonial rule, died in exile in Thailand on Monday, 16 September 2013 according to his military liaison. The 89-year-old, who left Malaysia around five decades ago, had been hospitalised in Bangkok for several years.

“He died this morning of cancer,” said General Pisarn Wattanawongkiri, a former Thai military commander and point of contact between Chin Peng and the authorities.

Born Ong Boon Hua in Malaysia’s north, Chin Peng was made an officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and won two medals for helping the British fight the Japanese in Malaya during World War II.]

Essentially, we all live in a cosmopolitan world comprising of every colour, race & creed – tall or short, big or small. Without exception, east to west, north to south, no country is mono-ethnic any more . . . what with international migration & mobility, influx of refugees brought on by wars, changing economic circumstances & opportunities, rapid transport & communication, most national populations are constantly in a state of flux & movement.

Under such circumstances, the difficulty of claiming where you belong stands supreme. However, if you owe allegiance & loyalty to where you are then the right of living in the country of your adoption should raise no question. Of course, for those living in the place of their birth, all legitimacy of being sons of the soil (termed “bumiputras” as in Malaysia) goes without any dispute or gainsaying.

Most of the original inhabitants of a place are often lost by way of domination & even marginalised by the superimposition of the higher culture. We see good examples in North & South America, Canada and Australia.

All human beings are the same the world over with the same hope, dreams & aspirations. All discriminations, oppression & domination should be ruled out. US, the greatest democratic nation in the world, so proclaimed & enshrined it in its constitution that “all men are equal”. Yet utterly unbelievable & shamefully, it is promoting domination rather than advocating peaceful co-operation & harmonious living.

With reference to Malaysia, whatever promotions the “Barisonputras” undertake like the recent Astro TV screening of “Unsung Heroes”, strong political overtone & hidden agenda are clearly & evidently attached. Why only involved the selected Indian community? Aren’t there no other unsung heroes from the other communities? Ironically, the 1Malaysia Policy is setting racial communities apart causing polarisation. Divide & rule is the name of the game.

I can think of many “unsung heroes” but suffice right now for me to mention just one man – Chin Peng, a true national patriot whose cause for national sovereignty & security caused him a lifetime of struggle & suffering. By any definition, he is an unsung hero, devoting his life to fighting against the Japanese invaders of Malaya (then known, now Malaysia) during WW2.

The British colonial masters were already driven out of the country by the Japanese leaving it defenceless.

For his part in the Japanese defeat, Chin Peng was awarded the OBE by the British Crown & two war medals in January 1947.

A nation like a tree got to have roots. The deeper the roots are the stronger the tree will be to weather the storm & withstand the test of time. Culturally, nationals must know their roots, with warts and all like China, before finding their wings to fly & soar. You can’t change history nor can you cover it up. Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat & other Malay folk heroes, whoever they were, their bodies may be dead & buried, but their spirits live on. Why would politicians take them off from the school history text books? What shame & hurt will the “Barisonputras” want to hide & erase history’s past? This is a serious indictment indeed!

Chin Peng (Chinese: 陳平, Mandarin Chén Píng), former OBE, born Ong Boon Hua (Chinese: 王文華, Pinyin Wáng Wén Huá) in 1924, was a long-time leader of the Malayan Communist Party (MCP). A determined patriot fighter & anti-colonialist, he led the party’s guerrilla insurgency first against the Japanese in WW2 & in the Malayan Emergency, fighting against British and Commonwealth forces in an attempt to establish an independent Communist state.

After the MCP’s defeat and subsequent Malaysian independence in 1957, Chin waged a campaign against the new state of Malaysia in an attempt to replace its government with a Communist one from exile, until signing a peace accord with the Malaysian government in 1989. (Wikipedia).

Chin Peng was born (October 22, 1924) in Sitiawan, Perak (residents refer to it as City-A-One) , the same birth place as the ex-MCA president Dato Dr Ling Liong Sik. He’s a genuine son of the soil – Malaysia’s very own.

Following briefly is the chronological main events in his life:

January 1940: Accepted as probationary member of the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM); put in charge of Communist members in Sitiawan.

July 4, 1940: Leaves home.

December 1941: Communists’ offer of help accepted; joins the fight against the Japanese.

January 10, 1942: The first batch of the Malayan Peoples Anti-Japanese Army (MPAJA)

1942: Meets future wife, Khoon Wah.

1945: World War II ends.

January 1946: Awarded 2 war medals; boycotts tour of British bases; forced to sign letter of apology. Later, Chin Peng is elected secretary-general of MCP.

December 28, 1955: Baling Talks held with David Marshall and Tunku Abdul Rahman, unsuccessful because of surrender terms. After the Baling Talks, Chin Peng retires to Thailand. Ah Hai replaces him as acting Secretary-General in Malaya.

1960: The Emergency is officially declared at an end. However, fighting still continues. Special Malaysian government troops going by the name “Senoi Praaq” prove to be a thorn in Chin Peng’s side.

December 2, 1989: A peace treaty is signed between the communists, Thailand and Malaysia. The long, hard war the British had preferred to term an Emergency was over.

#A point of interest here: Chin Peng’s story & his dealings with the British sound like opening the pages of the same as with Saddam Hussein or Osama bin Laden. Once the purpose is served, people can easily be dispensed with.

October 6–8, 2004: Chin Peng visits Singapore for 3 days to speak at the Institute of South-east Asian Studies (ISEAS).

2005: Chin Peng is pending to return to Malaysia. His hearing was scheduled for May 25, 2005, and the High Court postponed it to July 25, 2005. This application was subsequently rejected.

June 2008: Chin Peng’s lost his bid to return to Malaysia when the Court of Appeal demanded he showed identification papers to prove his Malayan citizenship. (Source: Wikipedia)

Now what kind of law & justice is this rejecting Chin Peng from returning to his homeland Malaysia, a place where he fought to preserve? He is 89 now & in the twilight years of his life. He wants to return home rather than living in exile in Thailand. His return – one of the terms of 1989 peace agreement – is unfairly denied.

This is Malaysian justice rejecting its own son from returning home to roost. The worst scenario is that the “Barisonputras” would shamelessly accord citizenship freely to foreigners from Asia & the right to vote to ensure their permanent grip of political power.

Let’s live in peace & harmony

Let Chin Peng return home.

Let me share a beautiful story here:

57 Cent Church  

A little girl stood near a small church from which she had been turned away because it was ‘too crowded.

‘I can’t go to Sunday School,’ she sobbed to the pastor as he walked by.

Seeing her shabby, unkempt appearance, the pastor guessed the reason and, taking her by the hand, took her inside and found a place for her in the Sunday school class. The child was so happy that they found room for her, and she went to bed that night thinking of the children who have no place to worship Jesus.

Some two years later, this child lay dead in one of the poor tenement buildings. Her parents called for the kindhearted pastor who had befriended their daughter to handle the final arrangements.

As her poor little body was being moved, a worn and crumpled red purse was found which seemed to have been rummaged from some trash dump.

Inside was found 57 cents and a note, scribbled in childish handwriting, which read: ‘This is to help build the little church bigger so more children can go to Sunday School.’

For two years she had saved for this offering of love.

When the pastor tearfully read that note, he knew instantly what he would do. Carrying this note and the cracked, red pocketbook to the pulpit, he told the story of her unselfish love and devotion.

He challenged his deacons to get busy and raise enough money for the larger building.

But the story does not end there….

A newspaper learned of the story and published It. It was read by a wealthy realtor who offered them a parcel of land worth many thousands.

When told that the church could not pay so much, he offered to sell it to the little church for 57 cents.

Church members made large donations. Checks came from far and wide..

Within five years the little girl’s gift had increased to $250,000.00–a huge sum for that time (near the turn of the century). Her unselfish love had paid large dividends.

When you are in the city of Philadelphia , look up Temple Baptist Church , with a seating capacity of 3,300. And be sure to visit TempleUniversity, where thousands of students are educated. 

Have a look, too, at the Good   Samaritan Hospital and at a Sunday School building which houses hundreds of beautiful children, built so that no child in the area will ever need to be left outside during Sunday school time.

In one of the rooms of this building may be seen the picture of the sweet face of the little girl whose 57 cents, so sacrificially saved, made such remarkable history. Alongside of it is a portrait of her kind pastor, Dr. Russell H. Conwell, author of the book, ‘Acres of Diamonds’.

This is a true story, which goes to show WHAT GOD CAN DO WITH 57 CENTS.

YOU can be a part of this worthy cause in helping us to “helping people in plight” & saving lives.

Come spring, summer, winter or fall

It fills our eyes & beckons us with its call

Beholding it as though it’s always spring!

The green is lush, fresh & beautiful to behold . . . changing not with the seasons. It’s tolerant of heat & rain without pain of due care & attention. It’s virtually free of maintenance, saving you both energy & water, fertilisers or mowing. No need to worry about winter weeds or fighting against its vigorous summer growth. In fact, it remains perpetually young & beautiful . . . could be that longevity & perpetual youth are not impossible after all!

Let’s hear directly from the horse’s mouth:

Only one showed up, took the measurement & promised to call back with the quote the very next day. He never did. I rang up the manager who told me that his man was unwell & would personally look into the matter. I waited for a service that never materialised. A satisfied customer is your best advertisement!.

Chinese Style of Celebration

There is something to be said about the Chinese when it comes to the question of celebration. And celebration not quite in the sense as generally observed by most people. Being a Chinese myself and having been largely Western educated with the benefits of having lived one score & ten years of my life in Australia, I can safely tell you that the Chinese are the most assiduous economic seekers.

 

They work both hard & smart without really ever taking a break or a holiday.

 

Before the introduction of modern way of business & labour operation, the Chinese as I know them work 24/7. Their holidays mean work & more work, as I would always say “Hard work will not a person kill, but sheer idleness will.”

 

My own grandfather & father lived by this philosophy, and in all the years of my father’s natural life, who raised up the nine of us siblings literally with the skills of his two hands, he had only been to Singapore and once to India with a cousin of mine. Needless to say, my grandfather known as “Mopeng Kaya” by the local Malays, never went anyway for holidays.

 

From thew womb to the tomb, the Chinese will never fail to celebrate the great & memorable occasions of birth, wedding & death.

 

Baby’s Full-Moon Celebration

 

30 days after being born, a Chinese baby is held in high esteem & will celebrate the occasion known as the “Full Moon” with red eggs, yellow rice & chicken curry, distributed far & near among all relatives & some close friends. It’s a real big thing.

 

 

Character represents “Longevity”

 

The other question of birth has to do with birthdays and not just any birthday. It is mandatory to celebrate the 60th & the 80th birthdays. These two great days are significant in the life of the Chinese. Red is the colour to go by in all the celebrations as in the distribution of red packets containing even sum of money known as “Ang Pow”.

Chinese wedding celebration knows no limit too. The grandeur of its celebration spells the status & wealth of the people concerned. Rolls-Royce limousines as bridal vehicles & other luxurious imported vehicles make the scene.

In life as in death, celebration goes on. Celebration mean eating. Food is the medium of celebration. The size of the banquet depends upon the economic status of the celebrants & also upon the significance of the day. There is also the question of “saving face” or as in Singapore they would express the notion of “Kian Soo” (not to lose out). In the Western world, it’s worthy in keeping up with the Joneses but for the Chinese it’s more by outdoing your relatives, friends & neighbours. Of late it was reported of a wedding banquet for 808 tables held at Liede Village, Guangzhou,

 

That is how celebration takes on the progressiveness of immensity.As a nation, there are other great festival celebrations such as Autumn Spring Festival or known abroad among the Chinese folks simply as Chinese New Year celebration, an occasion to match Christmas, or if not to outmatch it.

 

National holiday such as this create great havoc as great problems arise out of the need to cater transport for mass movement of people – a MUST-GO-HOME kind of thing to celebrate. But these days,the Chinese are beginning to take holiday trips locally to places of interest or abroad for their holidays. With millions on the move, that itself create the atmosphere of celebration.

 

With redness prominent everywhere & the ding & the bang of “noise” fill the air. It’s more “noise” than “music” with the classic display of lion dance & dragon dance for bigger occasions. These dances are performed with great kung-fu skills & artistry – nothing short of great gymnastic performances.

My brother Tony found this innovative hairdressing salon quite by chance about two months ago. He introduced me there today for a special haircut.

I am indeed most satisfied & still can’t imagine the low price I paid for such an excellent service and will subsequently call back again & again.

The name “Quickcut” is kind of ambiguous, for the service is certainly not a quickie job. You’ll get the satisfaction of getting all due care & professional attention according to your needs. For example, I often get rejected when I ask my barber to trim my eye brow. But “Fade” the sweet pretty hairdresser from Taiwan gladly obliged me.

 

These professional hairdressers are all recruited from Taiwan speaking mainly Mandarin & Taiwanese Hokkien. Sponsored by the franchisor, they are here on a two-year working visa; 5 or 6 of them in this salon all living together in one house. They are young & pretty in their early 20s.

“We started off with a humble little shop in Taiwan (Tainan province) in September 2006 and within 4 years, we have a whopping number of 100 shops all around Taiwan and became the biggest brand in Taiwan. The Root of What is Happening to America, Not Just America, but England, Europe, Canada & some other countries, if the politicians do not wake up and stick to being “politically correct”.

Scary, Unstoppable?

Our rights for safety & security, peace & harmony must be safeguarded. Politicians in the guise of democracy cannot afford to keep on playing the courtesy of diplomacy & being “religiously sensitive”.

Video below is a very telling lecture by Brigitte Gabriel, Founder of ACT For America, a journalist & a leading terrorism expert. It hits at the root of what is happening in American Universities, and what is happening to US culture. This fight is as real and costly as any combat America has been through in the past. The battlefield is non-conventional, but so are the methods of the enemies. Please take the time to listen to her addressing the anti-Sharia conference in Nashville. She could well be addressing similarly an Australian audience.

You should follow up and read her book “Because They Hate” A New York Times best seller.

The World’s Largest Rare Diamond – Argyle Pink Jubilee

              Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. The bigger they are

the more treasured & pricy they become. Diamonds immediately

invoke in your mind such famous names as Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor

right up to the Queen. What if they are rare and large

and of the unusual pink colour?

In its 244-year history Christie’s, the high-profile auction house, has only auctioned 18 polished pink diamonds larger than 10 carats. Large diamonds typically end in museums or or in the hands of the rich & famous.

Recently in February 2012, a lot of excitement has been generated by the finding of a rough pink diamond weighing 12.76 carats (2.55 g). It is the largest rough pink diamond unearthed at the Rio TintoArgyle diamond mine in Western Australia. It is called The Argyle Pink Jubilee.

The rough diamond – estimated to be worth millions – light pink in colour started its cut in Perth on 21 February 2012.The cutter is Richard How Kim Kam. The stone will be graded by a team of international experts. It will then be be sold by invitation-only tender.

It is similar in colour to The Williamson Pink, which is the diamond that Her Majesty The Queen received as a wedding gift and was subsequently set into a brooch for her Coronation. More than 90 per cent of the world’s pink diamonds come from this mine.

Expert diamond polisher Richard How Kim Kam has now started work in Perth on preparing the stone. Mr Kam, who will take about 10 days to cut and polish the diamond as a single stone, said “I’m going to take it very carefully. I know the world will be watching.”

When the diamond has been cut and polished it will be graded by a team of experts and showcased to the world before being sold later this year.

Argyle Pink Diamonds manager Josephine Johnson said “This rare diamond is generating incredible excitement. A diamond of this calibre is unprecedented – it has taken 26 years of Argyle production to unearth this stone and we may never see one like this again. The individual who gets to wear this remarkable pink diamond will be incredibly lucky indeed.”

Here below is a laughable illustration on the question of “Value Vs Valuable”. With old things in Australia, we have a market for “Trash & Treasure” – what’s trash to you maybe treasure to others.

An elderly lady was standing at the railing

of the cruise ship holding her hat tight so that

it would not blow away in the wind.

A gentleman approached her and said,

“Pardon me, madam.. I do not intend to be

forward but did you know that your dress

is blowing up in this high wind?”

“Yes, I know,” said the lady. “I need both

my hands to hold onto this hat.”

“But madam, you must know that you are not

wearing any panties and your privates are

exposed!” said the gentleman in earnest.

The woman looked down, then back up at the

man and replied,

“Sir, anything you see down there is 75 years old.

I just bought this hat yesterday!”

There is a thing or two about the collection of old vintage, antique or classic. Amateurs will not be able to value such items – only the experts & antique appraisers are called upon for such valuation.

However in an auction where collectors assemble, bids can go higher than the estimated value. It all depends on “What is it that you really want? And what’s the price you are willing to pay for it?”. When it meets with the heart’s desire, it becomes priceless!

In another light, to me the question of sentiment is held topmost in my mind & heart. When I was in college those days in England, I did woodwork as an option subject. For it I chose to do a needlecraft work-table out of teak, all crafted with joints only. Though not an exceptional skilful handyman, I laboured with all my heart and was credited in giving it to the girl of my heart, who became my wife. Now . . . how would you appraise such a priceless piece of art?

Names of the 12 pandas

For the first time these Pandas were on show at the recent 2010 Asian Game in Guangzhou

Chime-Long Xiangjiang Safari Park, covering an area of 130 hectares and located in the biggest city Guangzhou in south China, is the biggest animal theme park in Asia. Chimelong Xiangjiang Safari Park is located in Dashi Town, Panyu District, Guangzhou, 35mins from the heart of Guangzhou City. It’s a popular week-end outing place for Hong Kong residents, especially parents with kids.

Since its opening to the public in 1997, the Park has admitted over 10,000,000 tourists as of 27 April 2006. It has successfully imported 6 lovely koalas from Australia . . . the first time any organization in mainland China – an event recognised internationally that the Park been accepted as a world class animal park. Adding to their koala’s story of success was the successful birth of 4 baby koalas (joeys) in late 2006, including a set of extremely rare koala twins. The twins are only the second set of twins to be born in captivity, with the last set being born more than 50 years ago.

Rare White Tigers

As a world class animal park, it has also bred successfully 150 white tigers all from one. White tigers are unique and they have a special spot in the hearts of the Chinese as an animal of rare fortune. A few of these white tigers are even kept in the glass enclosure of the theme park hotel, adjoining the dinning area for visitors’ viewing & photography.

Private cars could just drive through the Park, slowly & leisurely, stopping frequently for photographing a wide range of animals from creatures great & small and also to have the pleasure of feeding them. The deers would come right up to the vehicles and eat off the food from feeding hands.

The zoo is broken into 2 main sections, the “Safari on Foot” section where guests walk around a modern zoo, and a “Safari on Wheels” section where guest’s board road trains and private cars to travel through three impressive open plains sections which are the Asian Plains, Predatory zone and African Savannah.

During the recent Asian Games held in Guangzhou, Chime-Long Park had 12 pandas for display there & to welcome participants & tourists. They are so unlike other known bears, even more distinct & famous than the Australian koalas.


Kids simply love this place. When night falls, there is the world-class circus performance in all its glorious colours.
