This is easily the best presentation & knowledge on cancer. Please read & digest.

A book written by Professor Richard Beliveau and Dr Denis Ginger on “foods to fight cancer” have the following findings: Statistic shows that one out of three people is affected by cancer before the age of 75. This represents 12 per cent of all reported deaths on Earth. However, fear not, there is hope.

People fear cancer and also believe that there is little they can do to prevent it. They put developing cancer down to hereditary factors or sheer bad luck. However, scientific research shows that this is not the case, and that lifestyle factors such as diet can play a major role in preventing cancerDo you know, one third of all cancers are linked to poor eating habits?

 Poor Dietary risk cancer

What is Cancer ? Cancer is a disease of the cell. Our human beings is made up of 60,000 billion cells.

The growth of cancer takes a long time over many years or decades. A cancerous tumor is not an instant phenomenon, it is a result of a long process that take several years to form.

The slowness in the growth gives us the opportunity to intervene to block the rebel cell from maturing into a cancer cell.

 Preventing Cancer Growth

Common method is by destroying the cancerous tumor by  1) Surgery,  2) Radiotherapy and 3) Chemotherapy ( Usually done together ).

Limitations

Surgery – cannot eliminate all cancerous cells. Radiotherapy ( X rays) – radiation will kill some of the normal cells too. Chemotherapy by medication or drugs to reach cancerous cells – many side effects including hair loss or drop in immune cell, organs complication.

4) Anti-Angiogenesis Metronomic is a new approaches by attacking the tumor’s blood supply thus depriving it food.  But anti-Angiogenesis Metronomic has to be a continuous process.

The good news is that a significant quantities of some Anti-Angiogenesis Metronomic molecules are present in fruits and vegetables.

Eating to Prevent Cancer

While it is true that the tumors that forms spontaneously in our bodies generally remain microscopic in size, posing no danger to health, it is also true that all too often these tumors do not grow and develop into lethal end stage cancel. However, if it does grow, we will be at risk of developing cancer.

Anticancer molecules present in fruits and vegetables fight cancers at the source, before it can reach maturity. Anticancer molecules present in food keeps them from progressing to an advanced stage of lethality.

In this way, we should try to think of cancer as a chronic disease, one that can be controlled on a daily basis with the help of foods rich in anticancer compounds.

Among the many anticancer compound present in fruits and vegetables, phytochemicals are the most important.

Anticancer compound present in fruits and vegetables, phytochemicals are the most important

Anticancer compound present in fruits and vegetables, phytochemicals block carcinogen action, block the promotion and progression of cancer cells.

Cabbage

Cabbage family ( Cabbage, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussels sprouts ) have an almost magical ability to fight against the development of cancerous cells in the body. Eaten regularly, they are an easy way to help to prevent cancer.

Broccoli is by far the best source of sulphorahane ( one of the phythochemical compounds )

Rapid or light cooking techniques, such as steaming or stir-frying in a wok, are simple and effective ways to maximize the quantity of anticancer molecules. Over cooking reduces the effectiveness of the anticancer molecules.

Garlic and Onions

Used for more than 2000 years before Christ, Garlic and Onions represent one of the best documented examples of the role of plants in the treatment of diseases and maintenance of good health.

The molecules found in garlic and onions are also capable of slowing down the propagation of tumors by interfering with the growth processes in cancer cells, leading to cell death by apoptosis.

Freshly crushed garlic is by far the best source of anticancer compounds and should be preferred over supplements (Drug).

Soya

Soya Beans, Soya sauce, Tofu has Isoflavones, the anticancer compounds present in soya, possesses a chemical structure similar to that of sex hormones and may thus interfere with the development of cancers caused by high levels of these hormones in the bloodstream.

Soya plays an important role in the prevention of breast and prostate cancer.

Studies has shown that taking soya at an early age for woman decreases the incidence of breast cancer.

 Japanese Green Tea

Green tea is an exceptional source of powerful anticancer molecules that make it a key feature of any diet designed to prevent the growth of cancer.

Green tea undergo the least transformation of all teas.

Black tea (Red tea) – resembles that of green tea, except that the roasting stage is carried out and thus have very little anticancer activity.

Japanese Green tea contains much more anticancer activity know as EGCG than Chinese Green Tea.

Brewing time matters too, and to maximize the extraction of the anticancer compound, the infusion time allowed should be at least 8 to 10 minutes.

Higher EGCG has better anti cancer compound

Berries

Most berries are an exceptionally abundant source of several classes of polyphenols that posses anticancer potential: ellagic acid, anthocyanidins, and proanthocyanidins.

Eating cranberries should be preferred over drinking cranberry juice.

 Omega-3s

Studies show that omega-3s reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease and in cancer prevention.

Omega-3s acids are naturally extremely unstable and it is preferable to use whole foods as source instead of omerga-3s supplements (Drug).

Eating fatty fish once or twice a week is one simple way of increasing omerga-3 levels in your diet.

Sardines, Salmon, linseed, soya, nuts are other sources of Omega -3 fatty acids.

Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits : Oranges, Grapefruit, Lemons, Mandarins

Studies has suggested that phytochemical compounds in citrus fruits block tumor growth by direct action on the cancerous cells, restricting their ability to reproduce.

Citrus fruit consumption, whether in the form of whole fruit or juice, supplies the body with an incomparable source of specific anticancer molecules, while also providing the necessary daily requirements of many vitamins and minerals.

Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate contains important amounts of polyphenols that are potentially capable of exercising beneficial effects on some chronic illness, including cancers and cardiovascular disease ( heart and blood vessel).

Milk chocolate contains less polyphenols

Substitute dark chocolate for sugar-filled junk food with no nutritional benefits.

Supplement ( Drugs)

Eating whole food provides greater benefits than taking supplements.

There are no and there will no miracle cures that are able to entirely repair the damage caused by a poor diet. You cannot eat just anything and then get off the hook by taking a pill.

Myth

Fruits and vegetables contain pesticide residues that causes cancer. – False, the residue is present in trace amounts and no study has ever established a link between these residues and cancer.

Only organic fruits and vegetables offer real health benefits. – False, In fact it would be better to consume many standard fruits and vegetables on a daily basis than to only occasionally eat organic foods.

Fighting Cancer Menu

Quit smoking

Lower red meat and calorie intake- avoid or reduce industrially process foods i.e. chips, soft drinks, crisps, hamburgers.

Avoid barbecued meats. The greasy drippings that fall and catch fire produce toxic substances know as aromatic hydrocarbons.

Exercise regularly

Choosing to modify your diet in order to include certain foods that are exceptional sources of anticancer molecules represents one of the best weapons currently at our disposal in the fight against cancer.

Anti-Cancer Food

Lightly cook, steam or stir-fry Cabbages, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussels sprouts or Tomatoes.

Habitually add Garlic or Onions to your cooking.

Drink more Soya Bean Drink or Japanese Green Tea or choose Red Wine than beer.

When you buy your fruit, take Berries, Oranges, Grapefruit, Lemons, Mandarin Oranges conveniently.

Add Sardines or Salmon to your dish.

Choose Chocolate rather than sugar.

After reading the book, I have a better understanding about cancer. At least we are in control of our life, so why put our life and our family at risk.

Just make an effort and take more anticancer food. Do not make life difficult for ourselves, simple adjustments to our lifestyle keeps the doctor away.

Take care

All Creatures Great & Small – Finger Monkeys

Amazonian Rainforest, Monkey Island (Peru).

By P Chong                                                                                    Saturday, 8 October 2011

Human beings like to possess. With creatures great & small,

there’s no exception. In fact, for the rich & famous, keeping

an exotic zoo in the backyard is the thing. The more exotic the animals,

all the more they keep & treasure.

You’ll find a range of pets from the creepy crawly ones like snakes to fierce & ferocious creatures such as lions & tigers and to the very gigantic elephants.

What about a monkey as a pet? Not just any monkey but a tiny little “finger or pocket monkey”? These monkeys are just 14 inches tall & so cute! They’re called finger monkeys, a specie from the rain-forests of South America – Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia. They are also known as ‘Pocket Monkey’ and ‘Tiny Lion’. These primates belong to the family Callitrichidae, species Cebuella and genus C. pygmaea. (Dumage.com – Pictures)

This cute little primate hugs and grips on to your finger so tight that it pulls your heartstrings, and you wish you could take it home with you.

The finger monkey is the tiniest living primate in the world. It’s so small that it can hold on to your finger.

Enjoy! If it wasn’t for the Internet, would you have ever seen

or have known about these little creatures?

These are the smallest monkeys in the world although there are some primates that are bit smaller (pygmy mouse lemurs and pygmy tarsiers). The body weight of adults in the wild averages only 4 ounces! You can see from the picture why they are often called “finger monkeys.” They are about 5 inches (13cm) tall, not including the tail. Which means they might be hard to observe in the wild as they’re tiny enough to be high-up in the trees on small branches. Up there, they have to be on the lookout for birds of prey. They are able to jump more than 16 ft or 5 m! Quite a distance for such a small monkey.

They inhabit the Amazon rain forest in Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru and Brazil. They scramble about like squirrels in the deep rain forest and drink the sap of trees. Since they are so tiny they can climb very high up in the trees on slender branches to find untapped sources of food – the sap and gum of trees. Ever see gum arabic listed in the ingredients of food products? It is a commercially available exudate from acacia trees that these little monkeys are happy to eat straight without any mixers. They also like to eat grasshoppers and some other insects when available. They enjoy a view of the water and prefer forests that may have a riverfront view or else flood-plain. (FactZoo.com)

Male pygmy marmosets may make displays of strength and prowess when confronted by other males and competing for territory. They do this by raising and flattening their ear tufts, arching their backs, grimacing while eyeing each other and displaying their genitals. Females usually give birth to two and sometimes three babies.

These monkeys are not good pets as they do bite and throw faeces. In captivity they are not happy away from their families and are hard to care for.

If you are thinking of them as “Exotic Pets”, you must find a veterinarian able to treat a primate before you bring your pet monkey home. These veterinarians are not easy to find.

Seeing Places . . . Meeting Faces

In our travelling, we get to see places & meet faces

To taste their local cuisine, speak their language or learn their culture

All add to the greater dimension of your life’s experiences.

Travelling is not meant for shopping

It’s wasting precious time looking for bargain

You’d shop in vain for lost time cannot be regained.

Most times you’d get to meet some of the nicest people

Even among the native or the minority

As may well be evidenced from these pictures:

Farewell Tribute to a Dear Friend – Dr Yap Chin Fah

Dedicated By P Chong                                                                        Friday, 2 September 2011

The late Dr Yap Chin Fah

Known among his friends as the “Singing Doctor”, he prescribed

medicine with a smile, and sang with his heart. His deep melodious voice was soothing to the ears and more so to the hearts of women who literally worshipped him with sheer admiration. He rendered both Mandarin & English songs with ease & charm . . . that handsome look with his boyish smile ever so radiant & bright!

Sadly, we shall no longer have his company nor to have him entertain us with rendition of songs by Michael Ball such as “Love Changes Everything” or his favourite song on Shanghai Bund in Cantonese. He passed on some days short of his sixtieth birthday defeated by that dreadful cancerous disease of the colon.

He sang as though there were no tomorrow . . . impressing on the importance of the present. In all the years that I have known him, he never turned me down to be present to sing, whether it was a home karaoke dinner or a public charity performance. All the time unknown to me he was fighting to beat this dreadful disease.

Below: A happy Dr Yap at our party to celebrate Tom’s birthday (1 October 2010)

At the last function (29 September 2010) attended by him in my house, he was in real high spirit, giving no indication of his being ill as you can observe from all the illustrated pictures. We had a roasted suckling pig and nobody was handy with slicing off the crunchy skin of the pig. He rolled up his sleeves saying “No problem” for in his father’s house in Ipoh, Malaysia, they always had this three times a year.

Dr Yap exhibiting his slicing skill with the pigling (Picture: Above & below)

A shock to all of us, he was in China when he passed away . . . seeking his last hope of living.

Gone but not forgotten, In Heaven he lives on. No longer forlorn, he’s telling us that life’s still worth the living, and living it to the full. Sing with a merry heart & make others merry! Don’t be sad when life is bad. Sing unto Him with a merry heart. Play your part out with a mighty shout: “Glory be to God!”

As strange as it sounds, however, Antarctica is essentially a desert;

The average yearly total precipitation is about two inches.

Although covered with ice (all but 0.4% of it, ice.),

Antarctica is the driest place on the planet,

With an absolute humidity lower than the Gobi desert.

Russia

The  deepest hole ever drilled by man is the

Kola Superdeep Borehole, in Russia.

It reached a depth of 12,261 meters

(about 40,226 feet or 7.62 miles).

It was drilled for scientific research

and gave up some unexpected discoveries,

one of which was a huge deposit of hydrogen

– so massive that the mud coming from the hole

was boiling with it.

The Eisenhower interstate system requires

that one mile in every five must be straight.

These straight sections are usable as airstrips

in times of war or other emergencies.

Waterfalls

The water of Angel Falls (the world’s highest) in Venezuela

drops 3,212 feet (979 meters).

They are 15 times higher than Niagara Falls .

I have always said, you should learn something new every day. Unfortunately, many of us are at that age where what we learn today, we forget tomorrow.

But, give it a shot anyway.

The Amazing Toothpick Sculptor: Scott Weaver

Dr Napoleon Hill, author of “Think & Grow Rich” once wrote: “Whatever the mind of man can conceive & believe, it can achieve.”

“I always had a dream that I would build the world’s largest toothpick sculpture,” Weaver says as he climbs a step ladder and plunks a ball into Coit Tower.” Then “It’s not, but none of them has a pingpong ball that rolls through it” . . . that’s where the difference lies!

Like "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" - Be Different

Obsessed with this dream, their living room was possessed by his toothpick world, depriving the wife of its use. Now, after the past 3 and a half decades – 3,000 hours of labour of love and 100,000 toothpicks, Scott Weaver has finally come through with his unique presentation of “Rolling through the Bay.”

As on display in the Tinkering Studio . . .

I have used different brands of toothpicks depending on what I am building. I also have many friends and family members that collect toothpicks in their travel for me. For example, some of the trees in Golden Gate Park are made from toothpicks from Kenya, Morocco, Spain, West Germany and Italy. The heart inside the Palace of Fine Arts is made out of toothpicks people threw at our wedding,” says the artist.

Scott Weaver’s amazing piece, made with over 100,000 toothpicks over the course of 35 years, is a depiction of San Francisco, with multiple ball runs that allow you to go on “tours” of different parts of the city.

Feeding a child is difficult as it is

What about feeding an animal?

This must be the craziest of all things

Having Feeding Bottle Sucking Fish!

You have heard of people bottle feeding the bear, a monkey, a tiger or lion cub . . . but a fish?

You have to take your hat off to the Chinese. They cross breed Koi with   some Amazon fish and produce this feeding bottle sucking fish.

They start training them to take bottle feedings at 1 year old. By 2 they are on exhibition in places like parks etc. It is such a novelty . . . almost like magic!

Each feeding bottle is sold for RMB10. Most parents and young couples are happy to pay to feed the fish.

It is claimed that they suckle like babies and are very cute.

I wonder what else they’ll teach the fish to suck next!!!
