Do we still doubt that China is heading towards becoming a mega super power in a decade or two?

No doubt at all.

Regarding railroads, the USA, the UK and others are still living in the Dark ages.

In China travelling by the new high-speed train is comparable to air travel, not as fast though, but in terms of comfort, convenience, cost & no hassle or rush, it scores well.

Sultan of Brunei – About One of the Richest Man in the World

Introduction

Saudi Prince’s $485 Million Flying Palace

unnamed

Steam room? Check. Concert hall? Check. Garage for Rolls? Check. What splendour befitting an Arabian Prince who no longer rides the camel but flies in style for both business & pleasure . . . like waving his magic wand for dreams of fantasy!

Imagine the perfect flying experience – no queues, a reclining seat, add four-poster beds, a Turkish bath for four and somewhere to put the Rolls-Royce – not to mention a boardroom with holographic screens and a concert hall.

A superjumbo designed to order for a Middle Eastern Prince …

When completed, the converted Airbus A380 will be the world’s largest private jet.

unnamed-1

Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud spent $485 million on the custom Airbus A380,

with interior and amenities designed by British firm Design.

The plane usually seats 600, but lots of room had to be cleared for various perks . . .

. . . qualitatively & quantitatively there’s such lavishness, opulence, extravagant extreme & excesses just to flaunt his paramount riches!

Naturally, there’s an on-board garage, so that the prince can be driven right to the threshold of the airplane’s elevator.

After arrival, he can retire to his master suite – one of five with king-size beds, and computer generated prayer mats which always face Mecca ,

up to 20 extra-guests have to make due in sleepers that are the equivalent of first class.

Not to forget there’s also a Concert Hall that seats ten and has a baby grand piano, a boardroom with a holographic projector, and a full-size steam room.

But the most entertaining perk is a “Wellbeing Room” which has a floor upon which is projected an enormous image of

what the plane is flying over – thus creating a “magic carpet” effect.

China, apart from developing its own high-speed train network within the country, it has gone out globally marketing this technology.

This connection is the first of the many other proposals to materialise. It’s just the beginning . . .

China Railway Construction has finished the second stage of the Ankara-Istanbul high-speed rail project in Turkey, which is also the first high-speed railway line in the country. It entered service on July 25, 2014.

This success marked the start of China Railway Construction going global, presenting China’s advanced equipment, high technology, sound designs and construction abilities.

Recently, a People’s Daily reporter took a trip on this railway. After buying a ticket for 30 Turkish liras (equivalent to $13.7), he had the opportunity to take a closer look at the project. The livery is a similar white to China’s Harmony Express, and the design is streamlined at the front. There were in total of 6 carriages with 10 rows of seats in each. 4 adjustable seats were available in each row. The carriages were full when the train left the station.

A young Turkish man spoke to our reporter: “I was so excited to try this new train. I used to take planes to work before. It was a real waste of time and money . This new railway is so convenient, comfortable and cost-effective. Many of my friends like it too.”

As a result of this project, more and more Turks will have deeper understanding of and more positive feelings towards China. Ersin, the general director of Turkey’s ministry of foreign affairs in the Middle East and Asia Pacific affairs department, told our reporter: “We Turks support cooperation among the countries along the Silk Road, and we look forward to the development of transportation, logistics, investment and commerce. Turkey is making a positive effort to achieve cooperation and substantial progress in multiple fields. “

Social Progress Index – A New Standard to Rank Societies

Michael Green

Michael Green

Michael Green has created the Social Progress Index, a standard to rank societies based on how they meet the needs of citizens.

A better & revolutionary way to evaluate the “Well-Being” of a society.

SPI based on 3 components
SPI based on 3 components

In his book Philanthrocapitalism (co-authored with Economist business editor Matthew Bishop), Michael Green defined a new model for social change built on partnerships between wealthy businesses, governments and community organizations. Shortly thereafter, Bishop floated the idea of a “Social Competiveness Index,” the idea that one day countries would compete with one another to be the most socially advanced, in the same way as they now compete to be economic top dog. Green loved it and decided to turn it into reality.

Teaming up with Avina’s president Brizio Biondi-Morra, Sally Osberg of the Skoll Foundation and many other thought leaders from businesses and foundations, he began work on what would become the Social Progress Imperative, of which he’s now CEO. Later they were joined by Harvard management guru Michael E. Porter, who became chairman of the SPI’s advisory board. The first Social Progress Index was published this year.

Ranking of Countries based on SPI
Ranking of Countries based on SPI

The term Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is often talked about as if it were “handed down from god on tablets of stone.” But this concept was invented by an economist in the 1930s, (& IT’S KIND OF BECOMING IRRELEVANT IN THE 21ST CENTURY). We need a more effective measurement tool to match 21st century needs, says Michael Green: the Social Progress Index. With charm and wit, he shows how this tool measures societies across the three dimensions that actually matter (See Chart Below). And reveals the dramatic reordering of nations that occurs when you use it.

Shanghai Tower – The Vertical City

\

Paul Chong / Thursday, 13 November 2014

Shanghai Tower

The Shanghai Tower is a super tall skyscraper under construction in Lujiazui, Pudong, Shanghai. Construction work on the tower began in November 2008. Upon its completion in 2014, the building will stand approximately 632 metres (2,073 ft) high and will have 121 stories, with a total floor area of 380,000 m2 (4,090,000 sq ft).

The Shanghai Tower will be the tallest building in China and the second-tallest in the world, surpassed by the Burj Khalifa in the United Arab Emirates.

A mind boggling concept becoming a reality . . . was thought to be unbuildable . . . a superstructure uniquely its own . . . never been built or attempted by others before.

Polluted Shanghai
Polluted Shanghai

Shanghai is the largest metropolis in the world, burdened with a teeming population of 23 millions & still growing. The concept of Shanghai Tower to accommodate millions vertically without the horizontal spread of the metropolis. It is designed:

  • to have people living, working & playing without the

    hassle of travelling by car.

  • to have gardens, parks & greenery with clean air

  • a city within a city to cope with accommodating

its teeming population with shops, offices, hotels

& restaurants all within easy reach at each level.

For more than a hundred years, Shanghai has been China’s super powerhouse. It is expanding unchecked and showing no sign of slowing down. The city is reaching a crisis point & some solutions have to be found & found quick before modern decay sets in.

Present city is a tough place to live, squalid, unhygienic & environmentally unfriendly . . . pointing in the direction of a radical change before life in Shanghai becomes unbearable.

Shanghai Bund is the famous old part of the city, a financial centre where people live, work , shop & relax. Shanghai Tower essentially is designed to be much like the Bund area but on a vertical scale. An excellent idea where land & space are of premium price.

Reaching for the sky . . .
Reaching for the sky . . .

When there is so limited space horizontally, the only sensible way is to build upwards . . . reach for the sky. Shanghai Tower is a solid core reaching up a third of a mile . . . a vision of standing tall & supreme above the squalid foul air below.

Eggs – Nature’s Wonder Superfood

On this egg farm excursion you will learn all about where Australian eggs come from – meet the hens, the farmers, the little baby chicks and even the guard dog.(Embedded Video)

Which comes first the chicken or the egg? This is a causality dilemma which often evoke the question of how life & the universe first began. Metaphorically & obviously one cannot exist without the other. But we are not about to argue over the answer. It’s just to illustrate the fact that the egg is undoubtedly the single most complete natural food available . . . out of which the chicken is hatched. As such, it can indeed be classified as a “superfood” with the all nutrients necessary to sustain life.

Screen shot 2014-11-09 at 4.59.30 PM

I have read many a conflicting report on the consumption of eggs. Some said this, some said that . . . advising for health reason just eating the egg white & dispense with the yolk. Yet this is the part containing 43% of the protein that feeds the developing embryo.

Egg white consists primarily about 90% water into which is dissolved 10% proteins (including albumins, mucoproteins, and globulins). Unlike the yolk, which is high in lipids (fats), egg white contains almost no fat, and carbohydrate content is less than 1%. Egg whites contain just over 50% of the protein in the egg.

  • Eggs Are Incredibly Nutritious – Eggs are among the most nutritious foods on the planet. A whole egg contains all the nutrients required to turn a single cell into a baby chicken.A single large boiled egg contains: Vitamin A: 6% of the RDA, Vitamin B5: 7%, Vitamin B12: 9%, Vitamin B2: 15%, Phosphorus: 9%, Selenium: 22%.

  • Eggs also contain decent amounts of Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Vitamin B6, Calcium & Zinc.

  • This is coming with 77 calories, 6 grams of protein and 5 grams of healthy fats.

  • Eggs also contain various other trace nutrients that are important for health.

  • Really… eggs are pretty much the perfect food, they contain a little bit of almost every nutrient we need.

  • If you can get your hands on pastured or Omega-3 enriched eggs, then these are even better. They have more Omega-3s and are much higher in Vitamin A and E.

  • Bottom Line: Whole eggs are among the most nutritious foods on the planet, containing a little bit of almost every nutrient we need. Omega-3 enriched and/or pastured eggs are even healthier.

  • Eggs Are High in Cholesterol, but They Don’t Adversely Affect Blood Cholesterol.

  • Raise HDL (The “Good”) Cholesterol

  • Eggs Raise HDL (The “Good”) Cholesterol

  • Turn LDL Cholesterol From Small, Dense to Large, Linked to a Reduced Risk of Heart Disease

  • Eggs Contain Lutein and Zeaxanthin, Antioxidants That Have Major Benefits For Eye Health

  • In the Case of Omega-3 or Pastured Eggs, They Lower Triglycerides as Well

  • Eggs Are High in Quality Protein, With All The Essential Amino Acids in The Right Ratios

  • Eggs do NOT Raise Your Risk of Heart Disease and May Reduce The Risk of Stroke

  • Eggs Are Highly Fulfilling and Tend to Make You Eat Fewer Calories, Helping You to Lose Weight

  • Eggs Are Highly Fulfilling and Tend to Make You Eat Fewer Calories, Helping You to Lose Weight

Studies clearly show that eating up to 3 whole eggs per day is perfectly safe.

There is no evidence that going beyond that is harmful, it is just “uncharted territory” as it hasn’t been studied.

Egg giving life to chicken itself is proof of its miraculous food nutrients. Undoubtedly, you can’t go wrong with egg consumption.

PEOPLE BEEN EATING EGGS FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS.

Peanut Butter Test to Detect Alzheimer’s Disease

UF researchers find that ‘peanut butter’ test can help diagnose Alzheimer’s disease

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A dollop of peanut butter and a ruler can be used to confirm a diagnosis of early stage Alzheimer’s disease, University of Florida Health researchers have found. It’s as simple as that. (Published on Oct 8, 2013)

J Stamp

Jennifer Stamps, a graduate student in the UF McKnight Brain Institute Center for Smell and Taste, and her colleagues reported the findings of a small pilot study in the Journal of the Neurological Sciences. Stamps came up with the idea of using peanut butter to test for smell sensitivity while she was working with Dr. Kenneth Heilman, the James E. Rooks distinguished professor of neurology and health psychology in the UF College of Medicine’s department of neurology.

She thought of peanut butter because, she said, it is a “pure odorant” that is only detected by the olfactory nerve and is easy to access.

She noticed while shadowing in Heilman’s clinic that patients were not tested for their sense of smell. The ability to smell is associated with the first cranial nerve and is often one of the first things to be affected in cognitive decline.

Peanut Butter & Ruker

Stamps also had been working in the laboratory of Linda Bartoshuk, the William P. Bushnell presidentially endowed professor in the College of Dentistry’s department of community dentistry and behavioral sciences and director of human research in the Center for Smell and Taste.

A friend sent this to me & I found it too truthfully interesting not to share it with a larger audience. They don’t make heroes like him anymore.“Go ahead . . . Make my day” . . . just nobody can say it like he does! If you realise each day is a gift, you may be near my age.

Clint Eastwood

Clinton “Clint” Eastwood @ 83 (Born 31 May 1930)

Movie legend/director/spaghetti cowboy

As I enjoy my twilight years, I am often struck by the inevitability that the party must end.
There will be a clear, cold morning when there isn’t any “more.” No more hugs, no more special moments to celebrate together, no more phone calls just to chat. It seems to me that one of the important things to do before that morning comes, is to let every one of your family and friends
know that you care for them by finding simple ways to let them know your heartfelt beliefs and the guiding principles of your life so they can always say, “He was my friend, and I know where he stood.”

So, just in case I’m gone tomorrow, please know this: I voted against that incompetent, lying, flip-flopping, insincere, double-talking, radical socialist, terrorist excusing, bleeding heart, narcissistic, scientific and economic moron currently in the White House!

Participating in a gun buy-back program because you think that criminals have too many guns is like having yourself castrated because you think your neighbors have too many kids.

 Clint

Make my day!
