China Building Floating Islands in South China Sea

island-fr-afarfloating-islandsThe American have always been known for their aggressive though creative imagination to capture people’s mind , hearts & soul . . . with propaganda, intimidation & threats of war. Mostly playing the part of the aggressor & under the guise of introducing western democracy, bringing about regime changes with the fall of Iraq’s Saddam Hussein & Libya’s Gaddafi, for example. The consequential costs of human life, misery & suffering are totally unacceptable . . . suffice for me to say this much without saying more.

Ironically, the Americans have all the justification & rationalisation for all that they have done. Bush was after “weapons of mass destruction”(WMD) when he invaded Iraq.

It would be suicidal to launch an attack on US. Silly ambitious Japan did by bombing Pearl Harbour during WW2 & suffered its defeat by US dropping off two atomic bombs over Hiroshima & Nagasaki. Militarily, US is supreme . . . “touch me not”.

China had enjoyed greatness before in its dynasty past as well as great humiliation in the hands of grabbing foreign power since prior to the fall of the last dynasty. No other nation can appreciate peace & harmony more than China.

To say the very least, China is truly committed to peaceful development, harmonious living, cooperation & co-existence. But why is US so jittery? China has a civilisation of over 5,000 years, that was “on the wane but never gone away”. It’s used to building mega structures . . . the Great Wall, Grand Canal, Forbidden City, Three Gorges Dam . . . after all, it’s a BIG country with a BIG population of over 1.3 billion (like every one in five living there).

Americans like to consider “white” as being supreme & beautiful. Contrarily, without the array & enhancement of colour mix, white alone does not have that impact. Beauty is truly in the eyes of the beholder. Beautiful rainbow has seven primary colour. An artist requires a variety of colours to paint. Can the human landscape do without colour?

It has estimated by experts that by 2025, China should complete a phase of infrastructure that will rival what the United States has built in its entire history. It is estimated that China will overtake US as number one economy by the earliest 2020 or latest 2025!

futuristic-floating-cityfloating-citySince 2015 China been building giant Floating Islands (also Floating City) in the South China Sea. China’s pursuit of construction projects to assert its claims to disputed territory in the South China Sea. China is not backing down over its “ancestral” claim. Initially, China was just building up Spratly Island.

China, not just satisfied with turning South China Sea reefs into its first defence front, while Chinese Shipyard looks to building giant Floating Islands. The speed and scale of China’s island-building spree in the South China Sea last year aroused fear among the disputed claimers over a scattering of reefs and islands in the South China Sea, more than 500 miles from China. Material for the project is transported through a floating pipe.

Dispute with provocation can lead on to war. China’s Foreign Office, however, is willing to negotiate & settle peacefully through dialogue. Dialogue for negotiation should be left to concerned parties without outside intervention.

Airstrip Mystery on Spratly Islands

The Spratly Islands (Chinese name: Nansha islands), Vietnamese Name: Quần đảo Trường Sa, Filipino Name: Kapuluan ng Kalayaan) are a disputed group of more than 750 reefs, islets, atolls, cays and islands in the South China Sea.[6] The archipelago lies off the coasts of the Philippines, Malaysia (Sabah), and southern Vietnam. Named after the 19th-century British explorer Richard Spratly who sighted them in 1843, the islands contain approximately 4 km2 (1.5 mi2) of actual land area spread over a vast area of more than 425,000 km2 (164,000 mi2).

The Spratlys are one of three archipelagos in the South China Sea which comprise more than 30,000 islands and reefs, and which complicate governance and economics in this part of Southeast Asia. Such small and remote islands have little economic value in themselves, but are important in establishing international boundaries. No native islanders inhabit the islands which offer rich fishing grounds and may contain significant oil and natural gas reserves.

Satellite imagery indicates China is building an island islandthat could be the site for its first airstrip in the disputed Spratly Islands in the South China Sea, defence specialists IHS Jane’s reports., a few days ago.

The images of the reclaimed island on Fiery Crtoss Reef, taken on August 8 and November 14 (2014) show that over the last three months, Chinese dredgers have created a land mass 3Km long & 200m to 300m wide, large enough for a runway & apron.

As well as the land mass, which is almost the entire length of the reef, the dredgers are creating a harbour that could be large enough to receive tankers & major surface ships, it added.

The Spratly Islands, reefs midway between Vietnam & Philipines, are claimed by Brunei, Malaysia, The Philipines, China, Taiwan & Vietnam. The only habitable part of the reef is a concrete platform built & maintained by China’s military.

IHS Jane’s said the reclamation at the reef was the fourth such project China has undertaken in the islands in the past 18 months. No other can house an airstrip in its current form, IHS Jane’s said. (Source: The West Australian 27 November 2014).

The Overseas Chinese

(With particular reference to Malaysia)

KLsunriseSunrise Over Malaysian Capital KL

The Overseas Chinese, a term first came to be used with reference to the pioneering Chinese who for hundreds of years, have emigrated across the South China Sea seeking fortune & exploring unknown lands. Most came through sheer economic pressure at home with the expressed desire & hope of returning home one day.

The home returning never materialised. While many sent for their loved ones or arranged brides, others settled down inter-marrying with the locals. My grandparents were both from Fujian Province in China. The majority of the Overseas Chinese remain ethnically & distinctively Chinese, except for a minority who married the locals, such as the ‘Babas’ of Malacca. My wife’s grandparents were both from China. Her maternal grandfather was a high government official.

This writing is to set the record right in the history of Malaysia. History cannot lie, though vain attempts have been made to eradicate the horror of the Holocaust & the war atrocities by the Nazis & Japanese. Turning back the pages of history, the following facts are borne out lucidly:

  • While the Malays, less competitive in their lifestyle, were mainly &

traditionally in the rural areas, the Chinese were concentrated in the urban areas engaging in trading & business activities, rubber & tin mining, building factories & townships.

  • The generations following the pioneering Chinese were all born

in Malaysia – so rightly & legally can claim their birthright in the

    land of their birth.

  • The Chinese, past & present, are a definite asset to Malaysia. Whatever wealth & fortune accumulated by them are spelt with sweat & toil, strictly meritoriously.

The Chinese are very independent, most resilient & tolerant in nature. They are more individualistic than communal. They are certainly not religiously fanatic. They are known to be most assiduous in their economic pursuits, with the courage, strength & tenacity to face all adversities. Despite claims & illusions deliberately created about the Chinese expansionist myth, the Chinese with all their secret societies are definitely not politically inclined, at l;east not in the Western concept.

The Malaysian Chinese are much to be blamed for the present political woes in the country. With their weighted concentration in commerce & industries, they neglected the political arena, leaving it to the less competitive Malays to wield & seal their political clout. As it turned out, with political power, everything else fell unto their lap – with the Chinese & Indians tolling the line. As way back as 1970s, Datuk Musa Hitam, then the Deputy Prime Minister, confirmed this truth when addressing an ADMO (Alliance Direct Membership Organization – now non-existent) assembly.

People should be respected & accepted as they are. Every human being is the same the world over. They have the same hope, dreams & aspiration in life, though they may differ in colour, culture & language. There is no such thing as royal or elite blood, otherwise the procedure of blood donation & transfusion would be difficult. The main blood groups & composition are scientifically or racially undifferentiated.

Historian Arnold Toynbee emphasized the Chinese migrational trend as “peaceful penetration”. The feared “Yellow Peril” just does not exist, nor will ever be. There is no threat at all, either imminently or belligerently. Even China today advocate very strongly a peaceful & harmonious co-existence.

Why all these political divisions? Why such polarisations? Why the sporadic outbursts of racism? Why such persecutions & social injustices? Why all the discrimination & seizing all power to dominate?

Both the Chinese & the Indians have contributed much in the nation building.

They have given much but received nuts. How much more do you want? Enough is enough. Be fair & just.
