Trishaw Rider's Inspiring Story

Peddling a Hard Living

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Virtuous Mr. Bai Fang Li Bai Fangli (Chinese: 白方礼; pinyin: Bái Fānglǐ) was a Chinese pedicab driver who donated 350,000 yuan to enable more than 300 poor students continue with their studies. In 2005, he died at the age of 93. In 1987 he retired from his pedicab driving job and returned to his village where he saw many children working in the field because they couldn’t afford education. At that time he was 74 years old and he decided to go back to his job of driving a pedicab in Tianjin. Till 2001 he worked really hard, sometimes 24 hours at a stretch so that he could make the money to pay the installment for the school fee. At the age of 90 he paid his last installment to the school and retired from his job.

Bai, who was returning to his home village to retire, upon seeing the plight of such poor children, returned to Tianjin and went back to work as a trishaw peddler, taking a modest accommodation next to the railway station. He waited for clients 24 hours a day, ate simple food and wore discarded second-hand clothes he found. He gave all of his hard-earned earnings to support children who could not afford education.

In 2001, he drove his trishaw to Tianjin YaoHua Middle School, to deliver his last installment of money. Nearly 90 years old, he told the students that he couldn’t work any more. All of the students and teachers were moved to tears.

In total, Bai had donated a total of 350,000 yuan to help more than 300 poor students continue with their studies. In 2005, Bai passed away at the age of 93, leaving behind an inspiring legacy.

If a trishaw peddler who wore used clothes and had no education can support 300 children to go to school, imagine what you and I can do with the resources we have to bring about positive change in our world!

Coconuts Stabilizing Blood Sugar & Other Benefits

PC/Friday, 27 September 2013

images-1 People living in the tropics are very familiar with coconuts, but sometimes familiarity breeds contempt in that people tend to forget or take for granted the very goodness of coconut. I was looking at an old recipe book for Indian food and the instruction was to add the coconut milk at the end, i.e. not to boil the coconut milk.

We have often been told that coconuts are good for you, but more that we are virtually ignorant. So here then are the facts.

Did You Know…

. . . that coconuts are one of the wonder foods on earth that amply provides for all human needs?

They can even save your life!

images Few people (even fewer doctors) understand how important the coconut is to stabilizing blood sugar; lowering cholesterol; healing; hydration; and even replacing blood plasma in an emergency.

Referred to as kalpa vriksha (Sanskrit for “the tree that supplies all that is needed to live”) in ancient India, the coconut palm has been recognized as a top immune booster, antifungal , antibiotic, antiviral , and antibacterial remedy for thousands of years all over the world.

Yet, it has only been recently that modern researchers have begun to fully discover the massive health benefits this amazing fruit offers.

Fresh Coconut Water Pure Coconut Water

To give just one example of coconuts’ life-saving properties, they were used extensively in the Pacific during World War II. Since blood plasma supplies were scarce, it was very common for medics to siphon pure coconut water from young coconuts to be used as emergency plasma transfusions for soldiers who were injured. Since coconut water is nearly identical to human blood, it was suitable for people of all blood types.

Because of its strong antioxidant properties, the coconut can be used to:

==> Lower cholesterol

==> Improve digestion

==> Ward off wrinkles

==> Stabilize glucose levels

==> Fight off viruses

==> Build cells

==> Regulate hormones

==> Increase thyroid production

==> Lose weight

==> Increase metabolism

==> Fight infections

==> Stave off memory loss

==> Kill bacteria

==> And more!

 Coconut OilCoconut Oil

Considered one of the most treasured foods of all time, coconut products — including coconut flesh, coconut water, coconut oil, and coconut cream — each deliver superb health benefits.

Coconut oil, for instance, is considered the best and safest oil to use for cooking — even superior to extra virgin olive oil when it comes to giving the body what it needs for optimum health. Unlike other fats and oils that we typically use for cooking and baking, coconut oil does not form polymerized oils or dangerous trans fatty acids in our bodies, which can raise our cholesterol levels; clog our arteries and even make our skin sag and wrinkle. Plus, this ultra-safe oil can give your body important antioxidants that can help build stronger cells and improve your overall health and well being.

Here are a few ways that you can use coconut products to stave off disease and to recapture the look and feeling of youth:

Coconut Water – The coconut is a natural water filter. It takes almost 9 months for a coconut to filter every quart of water stored within its shell. This makes the resulting coconut water completely pure and sterile, which is one reason why it can be used for blood transfusions.

Another benefit of coconut water is the fact that it has the highest concentration of electrolytes than anything else found in nature. This makes it an excellent source of hydration.

Coconut Oil – In addition to being superior for cooking and baking, coconut oil also makes a superb topical oil that can help to naturally rid the skin of dangerous toxins. It also gives the skin the perfect mix of hydration and antioxidants that it needs to stay healthy, smooth and younger-looking longer.

Another great benefit of coconut oil is in protecting your teeth from the bacteria that can cause cavities and disease. Simply rubbing a little fresh coconut oil on your gums and teeth can keep them stronger and healthier than virtually any other dental treatment.

Most people don’t realize that coconut oil can actually help you lose weight ! Yes, simply changing your cooking oil from the unsaturated fat variety to coconut oil can help you lose those extra pounds.

Here’s why : Unsaturated fats found in canola, corn and other vegetables oils, as well as margarine suppress the metabolism , which makes it harder to lose weight — and easier to gain it. Over time, this metabolism suppression may result in 20-30 pounds of excess weight that your body cannot get rid of. Coconut oil, on the other hand, helps to increase thyroid function and boost your metabolism — 2 important components to shedding unwanted pounds.

 Coconut Milk

Coconut Cream – The best skin treatment product one can use to achieve flawless skin may quite possibly be coconut cream. Unlike traditional skin creams which can actually introduce fats and oils to the skin that will break it down over time, making it look older, creams derived from the coconut can actually replenish the skin, giving it a more youthful and healthy glow than most other skin care products on the market.

When it comes to buying coconut products, coconuts are not all created equal. Wild coconuts are always best, but can be hard to obtain if you don’t live in a tropical country. Whether you are using this wonder food to boost your immune system; increase your metabolism or fight wrinkles, using products from young coconuts will help you reap the most benefit.

Young coconuts contain the purest unsaturated fat, compared to the fat found in the more mature varieties. This is why they offer the most rejuvenation properties for the body’s tissues. But how can you tell how old a coconut is? Young coconuts are usually green in colour and oddly shaped. The brown hairy ones are mature coconuts, and while they offer a lot of healthy benefits, they aren’t nearly as good for you as younger varieties.

The best place to find young fresh coconuts is, of course, in the markets of the tropics, so be sure to seek them out if you travel to those areas. Coconut-producing regions export coconuts all over the world, however, so it’s relatively easy to find coconuts at your local health food store or Asian grocer.

Cinema, Property Tycoon Wang Jianlin Named China’s Richest Person

On the back of ongoing movie theater building in China, Wang’s Dalian Wanda Group bought North America’s AMC Entertainment last year for $2.6 billion, making it the largest exhibitor in the world.

Wang Jianlin, chairman of China’s largest commercial property developer Dalian Wanda Group — along with several rapidly expanding entertainment subsidiaries — is now China’s richest person, according to the latest

Wang’s net worth is estimated to be $14.2 billion, which places him $3.2 billion wealthier than China’s second-richest individual, Zong Qinghou, founder of Hangzhou Wahaha Group, China’s third biggest beverage maker.

Last year, Wang’s Dalian Wanda acquired North American cinema chain AMC Entertainment for $2.6 billion, making the company the largest movie exhibitor in the world. Apart from the AMC theaters, Wanda’s entertainment subsidiary has more than 500 cinemas with 6,000 screens in China, plus 68 karaoke bars, live performance venues, theme parks and an increasingly active film production and distribution business. The company’s latest film, the Qing Dynasty love story, Under the Hawthorn Tree, opened in China last Tuesday. The company’s other recent production credits include Keanu Reeves‘ directorial debut and Chinese co-production, Man of Tai Chi, which Radius opens in North America this fall.

Wang’s and Wanda’s entertainment holdings amount to just $1.3 billion of the tycoon’s net worth. The vast majority of his wealth sits in Wanda’s vast real estate empire, which has 148 million square feet of commercial property under management, worth $7.4 billion. The conglomerate’s department store subsidiary, meanwhile, is valued at $5.6 billion. Through direct ownership, various shell companies and investment vehicles, Wang and his family own 100 percent of Dalian Wanda Group.

STORY: China’s Wanda Pushing Film Credentials With ‘The Palace’

Wang’s personal biography is one of the great rags to mind-boggling riches stories of contemporary China. Born to a military family in the country’s Sichuan province near Tibet, the 58-year-old tycoon endured the depravations and food shortages of the cultural revolution era as a child. Following his father, who fought against the Imperial Japanese, he left school as a teenager and entered the military and served for 16 years. In the early 1990s he was honorably discharged and started work for a struggling real estate developer in the country’s north east, which he soon took over and branded Dalian Wanda. Perfectly timed to China’s historic economic boom, the company’s expansion has been relentless.

Now at the pinnacle of the Chinese business world, Wang’s ambitions remain aggressive. In June he acquired British mega-yacht maker Sunseeker – whose luxury watercraft are featured in the James Bond movies – for $1.6 billion. He now owns 40 five-star hotels and plans to double that number by 2015. He has also said he intends to increase his commercial property under management by 68 percent by the end of 2014.

Part of the ongoing commercial real estate expansion includes steady construction of more cinemas. Last month, the company’s exhibition unit, Wanda Cinema Line Corp. partnered with Imax, ordering up to 120 new giant screen theaters for the expansion of its shopping mall network and commercial centers across China, making it Wanda’s largest international exhibition partner. Wanda has also previously expressed interest in purchasing a European cinema chain

Wang, recently named by Forbes magazine as China’s richest man with an estimated fortune of $16 billion, said that China will have the world’s largest film industry by 2018. Wanda last year paid $2.6 billion to acquire U.S. cinema chain AMC and last week gave a gift of $20 million to the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences.

The company said that it had struck some 30 agreements with producers and talent agencies including to bring 30 foreign films and 100 local Chinese films per year to the new studio.

Wang said that the Qingdao International Film Festival will be held in the Metropolis’ exhibition area every September from 2016. It will be organized in co-operation with the Academy’s Cheryl Boone Isaacs, who was also in attendance, and China Film Group.

China already has some of the world’s largest studio complexes at Hengdian, a few hours outside Shanghai, and one of the most modern at Huairou, outside Beijing. Other studio complexes have been mooted at Tianjin and Wuxi.

Thai Princess, Retired Generals Laud Chin Peng

A wreath of orchids from Thai princess ChulabhornWalailakplaced in front of the coffin of former CPM leader Chin Peng tells a story the Malaysian government is not likely to agree with.

In Wat That Thong, one of the more famous temples in Bangkok, it is this story that retired Thai generals, who came to pay their respects to Chin Peng this afternoon, will remember him by.

According to retired general Kitti Rattanachaya (left), who was given the honour of spraying holy water on Chin Peng’s body before it was placed in the coffin,Chin Peng should be remembered as a hero, not as a terrorist.

330x220x242c70f35633c68d8e3c71070ef26059.jpg.pagespeed.ic._WH_WtuamD Through signing the Hatyai Peace Agreement of 1989, Kitti said, Chin Peng “played a key role in maintaining peace” along the Thai-Malaysian border.

“He fought for the independence of his country, just like (Vietnam leader) Ho Chi Minh, but he did not succeed.

“It is proper to allow his ashes to be returned to Malaysia. Forgive and forget, let bygones be bygones. Once someone dies, everything is finished,” Kitti told members of the media.

As a former military man who led troops against the CPM guerillas, he said, he viewed Chin Peng – who spent a third of his life in exile in Thailand – as an elder brother.

“(The Malaysian position) is just politics. When a peace agreement is signed, there is no longer animosity,” Kitti said, stressing that this was his personal view and not that of the Thai government.

Forgiveness the only solution

Kitti Rattanachaya

Agreeing with him, Akanit Muansawad, a general who retired from the Thai army last year, said that for him, forgiveness was the only way to bring peace.

As the first Thai army officer to broker talks with Chin Peng in August 1973, Akanit said he made the decision to do after losing many of his men.

“I was a captain then and in one year, I lost 50 soldiers – 30 died and 20 were wounded. I got malaria 13 times from going in and out of the jungle.

“I forgave because I couldn’t see any other way to solve the problem,” Akanit (right) said.  199x295x7fd01714a493019dd07064475fd8daba.jpg.pagespeed.ic.X15PoODxeb

The princess’ wreath was just one of many in memory of Chin Peng today.

Among them was a wreath of yellow flowers from his children, with a message simply reading: “In loving memory of our dear father.”

Of the 50-odd family members and friends who came to the quiet and sombre affair today, many were seen in tears.

330x206xfe17f00a9db3c182eb177efd05fb8e2c.jpg.pagespeed.ic.LetIUegciu According to Anas Abdullah, a family friend who helped arrange the wake and funeral, more than 100 former CPM guerilla fighters are expected to pay their respects in the next two days, before Chin Peng’s body is cremated on Monday.

300x225x303fe68cb5359ffde3d962ad1f00efc6.jpg.pagespeed.ic.tXCGK5UMEP

The son of a CPM leader and the son-in-law of one of the oldest surviving Malay CPM members Abdullah CD, Anas said his father-in-law was not able to make the 10-hour drive to Bangkok from the Sukhirin peace village, near Narathiwat.

“But about 10 people from the village will be driving over tomorrow,” Anas said of the village that is home to former 10th Regiment fighters, who are mostly Muslims.

‘Barring Chin Peng’s ashes makes us laughing stock’

Sep 21, 2013

 Former inspector-general of police Abdul Rahim Mohd Noor warned that Malaysia will become a laughing stock if the government adamantly refuses to allow Chin Peng’s remains to be brought into the country.

There is a hue and cry from the public not to even allow his ashes (back into Malaysia). My God… This is stretching the argument a bit too far. It’s a bit naive I think.

If the government – the authorities – succumb to this public pressure not to allow Chin Peng’s ashes to be brought back, I think, we are making Malaysia a laughing stock to the whole world,” he said in an interview aired on BFM yesterday.

Abdul Rahim, who led the successful peace negotiations on behalf of Malaysia with the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) in the late 1980s, said the refusal to allow Chin Peng into the country, even when he was alive, made a mockery of the 1989 Hatyai Peace Treaty.

The retired top cop, who was then chief of the Malaysian Special Branch, said he had convinced the government at that time to engage in talks with the communists, more than 30 years after the failed 1955 Baling negotiations.

Abdul Rahim said that even though the 12-year Emergency was lifted in 1960, security forces were still battling communist remnants in the 1980s, but the decline of communism in the region was an opportunity for renewed peace negotiations.

At that time, there were still around 2,000 communists along the Malaysian-Thai border, with the two largest groups being the North Malayan Bureau and the 10th Regiment, which comprised largely Malays, he said.

With the backing of then-prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad,Abdul Rahim said, the Special Branch, in secrecy, initiated negotiations with the communists at the end of 1987 and early 1988 on Phuket Island, which lasted for five rounds.

This, he said, culminated in the 1989 peace treaty signed in Hatyai, and comprised two agreements, one containing the core terms and another on administrative details on how the terms would be implemented.

Other ex-communist returned, met sultan’

I was involved in the drafting of both agreements, so I know full well that under the terms of agreements, first of all, the agreements are binding on every CPM member, from the highest, topmost to the bottom, lowest most.

If you say that Chin Peng as secretary-general of the party (CPM) is the highest-most member, then he qualifies to get all the privileges, advantages or whatever promises made in the agreements, which includes for him to be allowed to come back (to Malaysia),” explained Abdul Rahim.

Furthermore, he said, in the event these former communist members were not allowed to permanently return to Malaysia, they must still be allowed to enter the country on social visits, according to the agreements.

But in the case of Chin Peng, he was not allowed both. To me, it’s absurd, totally absurd. It’s unfair, grossly unfair…

There were others (ex-communists) who were allowed to come back and they were mainly Malays. Abdullah CD was allowed to come back to Malaysia and was even given an audience with the current Sultan of Perak.

Rashid Maidin, I was told, performed his pilgrimage through KL with the help of the Malaysian authorities. What’s all these?” Abdul Rahim said in an exasperated voice.

Abdullah CD was CPM chairperson whileRashid Maidin was a CPM central committee member.

Asked if the fixation of not allowing Chin Peng to return home, even when he is dead, was along racial lines, Abdul Rahim hesitated for a moment, then replied: “I am not prepared to make presumptions like that.”

As far as Chin Peng’s case is concerned, we created a situation where we made a mockery of the (peace) agreements,” he added.

Gov’t turning Chin Peng into an icon’

He warned that the government’s stance in preventing Chin Peng’s ashes from being buried in his hometown in Sitiawan, Perak, was making the ex-communist leader an icon.

Specifically, I think it is not good for the ruling party, particularly in their attempts post the 13th general election, to win back Chinese Malaysian support,” he said.

 The government had justified its decision by declaring that Chin Peng was responsible for the deaths of countless members of the security forces, most of whom were Malays.

Abdul Rahim lamented that the people do not seem to understand the context of the international communist struggle and instead perceive that the over 40 years of communist insurrection in Malaya was “Chin Peng versus the entire government machinery”.

He pointed out that research showed the communist structure was collective in nature and it was not a one-man-show where Chin Peng called all the shots.

330x220x176a1939eb0971d61c8dccd0359070bf.jpg.pagespeed.ic.G1y67W7ZeH

I do not know why it should develop along this line (Chin Peng versus government). The fact is that good or bad – whatever Chin Peng is, the background is a peace treaty had been signed. We got to jolly well honour the terms and conditions,” he said.

Asked by the radio station how he thought history would remember Chin Peng, Abdul Rahim replied: “They (historians) should be able to analyse Chin Peng as a communist leader – his role and his party’s role – in battling the British, in getting rid of the British.

His role in the peace process – the failure of the Baling talks and the success of the Phuket peace talks leading to the Hatyai Peace Treaty.”

Abdul Rahim has been consistent in wanting the government to uphold the terms of the peace treaty and had made a similar urging during a 2009 interview with Malaysiakini for Chin Peng to be allowed back to Malaysia.

Another senior cop who was also directly involved in combating the communists and was shot by them twice, Yuen Yuet Leng, had similarly urged reconciliation.

Chin Peng passed away on on Sept 16 of cancer, which incidentally was also Malaysia Day.

Chin Peng ‘never regretted his actions’

Aidila Razak

Sep 20, 2013 VIDEO | 8:00 minsAs far as Anas Abdullah can recall, in the 44 years that he had known former Communist Party of Malaya leader Chin Peng, the latter had never expressed regret for his actions.

“He never felt any regret. What he did was right. Going against colonisers is not wrong,” Anas (right) said when met at Chin Peng’s wake at a Bangkok temple this drizzly morning.  200x291xaee88eabfaf2248d5124d952973b6045.jpg.pagespeed.ic.GFX9UHZTTw

“He had to continue with the insurgency after the Baling Talks because the Tunku (Abdul Rahman Putra) did not allow us to be free.

“CPM members were to report to police stations, like we were criminals. It was unacceptable.”

Eyes glistening, the soft spoken Anas, 56, the son of Regiment 10 leader Abdullah Sudin, said there was no talk of regret even when he last visited the 89-year-old in hospital last week.

“Chin Peng was upbeat and optimistic, and even with a tube attached to his nose, he called out to me. He recognised me and was happy,” he said of the man he called ‘Uncle’.

Although the conversations were short – “He was tired so we didn’t want to wear him out” – on his deathbed, Chin Peng never indicated that he would have taken a different path.

A warm man who liked the harmonica

Remembering his ‘Uncle’ as a warm, accesible person who loved to play the harmonica, Anas travelled from Kampung Sukhirin, in South Thailand, the moment he received the call that Chin Peng was no more.

“I got the call and immediately. I thought, ‘He died at 6.20am on Sept 16. The CPM took up arms on June 20 (1948), and Sept 16 is Malaysia Day.

“We don’t believe in in superstitious things but it is something coincidental,” said Anas, a Malay and a practising Muslim.

The son-in-law of CPM fighter Abdullah CD, Anas first met Chin Peng at the age of 12 and worked alongside Chin Peng at radio station Suara Revolusi Malaya in Chin Peng.

“Sometimes, he would play the harmonica for broadcast.

“He’d come to us and put his arms around us, and invite us for walks together. He was not like what he is made out to be.”

In a picture in his mother-in-law Suriani Abdullah’s memoir, Anas is a moutachioed 32-year-old, the youngest and only surviving member of CPM’s delegation of six in Hatyai

“I had a mustache before, but no longer. It comes out white now,” he said, giggling.

But then his boyish, smiling face clouded over with a sense of sadness: “I’m the only one left now. I’m all alone.”

Breach of peace agreement

More than sad, Anas appeared more disappointed, even angry that the Malaysian government had chosen to treat Chin Peng’s memory the way it has.

As someone who was party to the intial talks and the final peace agreement, Anas said, Malaysia has now cemented its position as a country that does not uphold international agreements.

He said that by raising such a shield against the return of Chin Peng’s remains, Malaysia had breached at least two points of the agreement – to allow all CPM members to return home and not to slander them any more.

Now a Thai citizen Anas said the whole matter has been politicised.

He applied to return to Malaysia in 1989 but was rejected because he could not prove his citizenship. Anas was born in Indonesia and his parents were born in Singapore.

“Now even the prime minister is calling us terrorists… It has become a tool to instigate the Malays…,” he said.

He pointed out that the 1989 peace talks took off because of Abdullah CD‘s long-standing friendship with then deputy prime minister Abdul Ghafar Baba.

Leaders from both sides then had ties that bound them together, he said. However, these things have now been forgotten.

“How do we say who’s punching right or who’s punching wrong in a boxing match? The police attacked us and we attacked them, too.

“We even fought with the Thai soldiers, and some were killed, hurt or maimed. But why is it that the the Thais do not treat us in the same manner (as Malaysians)?”

Let your voices be heard! Know your rights! Speak up!

guoliang-village-zhengzhou9Guoliang Village was a tiny Chinese village high in the Taihang Mountains in Henan Province. Nobody heard about it. The only way to reach it was via steps cut on the side of a very steep cliff on which their village was built. They called the stairway their “Sky Ladder.” Perhaps the difficult access and a defensible position kept the little village safe when trouble was brewing in the area. But in 1972, the village elders including Shen Mingxin were determined to build a road. They wanted their village connected to the outside world and for people to be able to reach it other than by laboriously climbing stairs. So in 1972, with hand tools, 13 strong villagers started carving a road down the side of the canyon road. It is a single lane road that is about 12 or 13 feet across and about 15 or 16 feet high. Many tourists see their handiwork as a colossal feat. The road was finished in 5 years, and the result is that the village is famed as a tourist attraction.

The road is amazing considering that it is tunnels and levelled cliff face. The road stretches about a mile. It reminds me of a tunnel an ant colony might dig. They carved arches for their tunnel and levelled sections of cliff face so that tourist buses are able to go up. It isn’t wide enough to be a two lane road, but cars can pass each other slowly. The road was opened in 1977.

Along with seeing the road, tourists like visiting the welcoming little village people. They like hiking up the road because the canyon and the mountaintop area have spectacular scenery. The village itself is unusual because the villagers built it of stone. The walls, chairs, tables and even the bowls and some eating utensils were made of stone. The village probably has an interesting history of survival in a harsh land. The canyon below the village is very narrow and deep. There are coloured rock layers, and you can better see the colours of the layers in the tunnel and along the road cut. There is also a beautiful waterfall.

It is said that to pay for the tools to carve the road, the villagers of Guoliang Village 郭亮村 sacrificed a lot and even sold their animals and other necessities of life. What they probably didn’t realise was that the government would later think that this was a prime tourist attraction in central China. When the borders were opened for foreign travel in the last decade, foreigners started to find it and post pictures about it. Even a few years ago, it was a difficult place for foreigners to find and reach, but now the village is getting famous. Hotels have opened in the village, and bridges and walkways have been built for the tourists so that they can walk around in the area. Foreigners say that the hiking and scenery is excellent and there are lots of stairs to climb around on.

In the summer of 2011, there was a dispute between the villagers and officials about access and payment. Access to the village was restricted to foreigners, but some tourists still got in. So if you are planning a trip there, check the internet for the latest news.

The Village of Guoliang is about 120 kilometres or 75 miles north of the city of Zhengzhou in the Wanxianshan Scenic Area. If you want to go there by train, the nearest train station is at Xinxiang at (新乡) that is about 50 miles southeast of the Wanxianshan Scenic Area. From there, you can take buses to the town of Huixian 辉县. Get off at the Huxian Bus Station, and then take another bus to the Wanxianshan Scenic Area. This leg costs about 6 RMB or 1 USD and takes 30 minutes. From there, there are buses that cost 11 RMB that go the the scenic area. This leg takes about two hours though it is only about 40 miles away because the buses make many stops. The bus lets you off at the scenic area at a place where you can hire another ride or hike the 4 kilometres to Guoliangcun or 2.5 kilometres to another village called Nanping. There is an 80 RMB entrance fee if the park is open. The walk through Guoliang Tunnel is breathtaking, but keep an eye out for motorists. The road is steep in some places.

World’s Longest & Highest Suspension Bridge: Aizhai Bridge

How would this compared to Le Viaduc de Millau – an enormous cable-stayed road-bridge that spans the valley of the River Tarn near Millau in southern France?(Refer: https://paulchong.net/2010/04/10/millau-viaduct-–-an-amazing-engineering-feat/)

The Aizhai Bridge (矮寨大桥) is a suspension bridge on the G65 Baotou–Maoming Expressway near Jishou, Hunan, China. The bridge was built as part of an expressway from southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality to Changsha. It connects two traffic tunnels in the mountains, cutting the time needed to traverse the canyon from 30 minutes to 1.

Construction on the Aizhai Bridge began in October 2007 and was completed by the end of 2011, ahead of schedule.The bridge was temporarily opened to pedestrians during the 2012 Spring Festival[8] and was formally opened to traffic in March 2012.

The bridge was built with the assistance of a $208 million loan from the Asian Development Bank; the loan also funded 64 kilometres (40 mi) of expressway construction and upgrades to 129 kilometres (80 mi) of local roads. The bridge and the associated road construction were projected to reduce the travel time between Jishou and Chadong from 4 hours to less than 1 hour.

In September 2012, the Aizhai Bridge was the site of an international BASE jumping festival that included more than 40 jumpers from 13 countries.

Aizhai Bridge is 336 m (1,102 ft.) high and has a 1,176 m (3,858 ft.) span, making it the world’s longest and highest suspension bridge.

Why China Rises and the US Falls

PC/Friday, 20 September 2013

The Chinese have always been widely known to be most assiduous in their economic pursuit. From having the great capacity for work, surviving in the most adverse economic conditions, suffering & enduring, they are also very employable. They contributed much to the building of railway in America. Totally reliable & trust worthy, that’s who & what they are.

Most importantly you’ve got to remember they boast of an unbroken civilisation of some 5000 years unequal by any! – P Chong

Herein  we clearly see the dichotomy that distinguishes one from the other . . .

Source of Slides/Pictures Unknown:

Chinese women army greater in number than the whole of US population!

The American are required to be asleep in order to realise their American Dream.

America needs to really wake up and stop whining. It needs to fix the social political system and economic system. The only way to compete with China over the long term is to have its “EDUCATION” right.

Education is the secret to China’s long-term sustainable rise. Recently, America was shocked to see how much the American students are falling behind on science, mathematics and writing, while Chinese students excel in those three on international tests. Many in the US realize the challenge but also quickly point out that those Chinese students were from the developed Shanghai area and they have more money and better facilities. Wrong!!! students in Shanghai or Beijing are known to be lousy students who perform a lot worse than those from poorer areas. They have much lower college entrance thresholds, and normally they cannot enter the top Chinese universities.

This shows how wrong the US is: it looks at education only by money . . . while it is the will and love of knowledge that make a people worship education. (See BBC Chinese School, or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8cyb0. ..)

Education can make a turnaround within 10-20 years in a person’s life, and within 20-50 years in a nation’s lot.

America was in shock when it learned that China produced a stealth fighter, the fastest super-computer, longest highway system, longest high-speed rail system . . . all happened within a number of years since its reform started in 1979 when China was a lot worse than Ethiopia or Ecuador.

Education aside, let’s take a look at the other factors:
